Alpine part company with Budkowski

Marcin Budkowski has become the second high-profile departure from an F1 team this month as Alpine has parted company with its executive director.

Budkowski joined the team when it was known as Renault at the end of 2017 after a three-year stint with the FIA where he served as head of the technical department, prior to which he had spent seven years with McLaren.

Budkowski was one of the three pillars of Alpine’s managerial structure but in a simple statement, the team has confirmed that a decision was taken “to end their collaboration” from today.

CEO Laurent Rossi has temporarily taken on additional responsibility “to allow everyone to focus on the next season’s preparation”.

Rossi said: “I would like to thank Marcin for his commitment and contribution to the team’s results over the last four years.

“The team is fully focused on getting the car ready for the first race in Bahrain and deliver a step beyond in performance.”

Following his departure, Budkowski remarked: “I truly enjoyed being part of the leadership team of Renault then Alpine F1 Team, working with such a talented and dedicated group of people.

“I will be watching the team’s progress fondly in the seasons to come.”

Last week Aston Martin announced Otmar Szafnauer’s departure as team principal and CEO.
