Aston Martin first to announce 2022 challenger launch date
Aston Martin have confirmed that their AMR22, to contest the 2022 Formula 1 season, will be unveiled on 10 February.
Aston Martin confirmed via an email to fans, and later through their social media accounts, that they will be revealing the AMR22 at the team’s headquarters in Graydon on Thursday, 10 February.
It marks the first official launch date out of the 10 challengers that will be created for the 2022 campaign.

There is great anticipation for the new Formula 1 sesason, with new-look challengers set to hit the track for 2022 as part of Formula 1’s aim to put the emphasis on driver ability once more.
With cars that will switch to a ground effect aerodynamic philosophy, the series hopes to allow drivers to follow more closely, thus creating more overtaking opportunities.
Design freedom with the new challengers meanwhile will be restricted compared to the previous regulations, which Formula 1 hopes will keep the pack more closely bunched together.
Aston Martin have grand ambitions to rise to title prominence within the next five years, though 2022 will mark the first important step after an underwhelming 2021 season.
While closely following Mercedes’ designs helped the team in 2020, back when they were known as Racing Point, that philosophy backfired for the following season, as new aerodynamic rules hurt both outfits.
For Mercedes that meant dropping into the clutches of Red Bull, while falling closer to the midfield pack, but for Aston Martin, they lacked the pace to continue their fight at the front-end of the midfield.
Instead, they ended the 2021 campaign P7 in the Constructors’ Championship, scoring 77 points, a mighty 65-points down on AlphaTauri ahead.
The same driver line-up has been retained by Aston Martin for 2022, with four-time World Champion Sebastian Vettel continuing to partner Lance Stroll, son of team owner Lawrence Stroll.
During the off-season Aston Martin announced the departure of team principal Otmar Szafnauer, who has been linked with a switch to Alpine after Marcin Budkowski left his role as executive director.
The new 2022 cars are set to hit the track for the first time in the upcoming Barcelona pre-season test, held at the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya from 23-25 February.
