Vamos! Fernando Alonso’s first podium since 2014 isn’t the only news that will delight Spanish fans, as F1 have extended their contract with the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya until 2026. As part of the deal, improvements will be made to the track and facilities – fingers crossed this creates more overtaking opportunities.

“We are delighted to announce this deal with Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya,” F1 CEO Stefano Domenicali said in a statement.

“I want to thank to promoter and the authorities for their enthusiasm and commitment to keeping Formula 1 in Barcelona, with improvements that will be made to the track and facilities, and continuing our long history together.

“The teams and drivers always look forward to racing at the circuit and visiting Barcelona, and the Spanish fans will continue to see their national heroes,  Fernando Alonso and Carlos Sainz up close.”

The track replaced Jerez as the home of the Spanish Grand Prix back in 1991. This year’s race was won by Lewis Hamilton, the same weekend he achieved his 100th pole position.

Are you happy to see the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya staying on the calendar? Let us know in the comments.
