Lawrence Stroll says he’s “delighted” with how Sebastian Vettel is doing and wants the German to stay with Aston Martin for many years.

Vettel has made a solid if unspectacular start to life with the British outfit, struggling at times but also finishing on the podium twice, although he was ultimately disqualified on the second occasion.

Nevertheless, with the option to extend his contract by another year not yet activated by the team, speculation has started to swirl regarding his future there, with rumours that the team wanted to replace him with Fernando Alonso or Daniel Ricciardo going forward.

Team owner Stroll has clarified that he’s happy with the driver though and has every intention of keeping him with the team for a long time yet.

“We are delighted with Sebastian,” the Canadian told the BBC.

“It is our firm intention to continue with him next year and beyond.”

Vettel has become more and more involved with environmental matters and outspoken about his views this season, something which Stroll says doesn’t concern him at all.

“[They] have no bearing whatsoever on our strong and ongoing desire for him to continue to drive for us in Formula 1,” he added when asked.

Stroll and the team recently announced that their new Silverstone factory, which will cost up to £200m, has now started to be constructed.

He says that the project is good for the sport and proves his commitment to it.

“It’s a hugely significant investment, above 400,000 sq ft,” he said.

“It shows my belief in the team, confirms my ambitions and my belief in F1. It’s really an investment in F1.”

The facility is the first purpose-built F1 factory to be constructed since McLaren’s Technology Centre was opened in 2004.

Stroll says the two facilities aren’t comparable though as McLaren’s focuses heavily on style, with renowned architect Sir Norman Foster being picked to design it.

“This is the reverse of what Ron Denis did with Norman Foster,” he stated.

“This is a business, this is a factory, a campus, fit for purpose to match the DNA and culture of ourselves, the purpose of what it’s been built for,

“To be efficient and streamlined, to have everyone sitting side by side under one roof, taking into consideration the new financial regs and where sport will go in the future.

“It truly represents our image, culture and DNA.”
